How To Get The Right Bracelet For Your Wrist

Much like necklaces and earrings, bracelets also require consideration of your body features before you purchase. Some have small wrists, others have large ones. Some have short, stocky arms, others long and lanky. That gorgeous, wide leather cuff isn't going to look as gorgeous on every wrist.

So, here are the rules of thumb (or better, rules of wrist) when choosing a bracelet that's right for you:

  • Generally, delicate, thin bracelets look better on small wrists, while wider, chunkier ones suit bigger wrists better. If you have a medium sized wrist, you're ahead of the game. You can practically wear anything you want.
  • Leather and metal cuffs can look good on most wrists if you consider the the width of the cuff. Got a small wrist? Stay away from anything wider than an inch, or you risk literally losing yourself in that bracelet.
  • Consider the occasion. There are so many bracelet styles out there, but not every style is suited for every occasion. Simpler, thinner bracelets with secure clasps are better for daily wear. Also, if your daily routine doesn't include a lot of time with your forearms on top of a desk, feel free to wear bangles and metal cuffs, just make sure you keep them at a minimum. One or two simple bracelets go a long way. On the other hand, if you're attending a wedding, concert, or other special event, feel free to stack 'em up or wear wider, statement bracelets. Yes, date night counts as a special occasion too.
  • Stay true to your style. Bracelet fashions come and go, but don't make the mistake of mixing styles. That's to say don't wear a cutesy charm bracelet with your high fashion western outfit or a large, heavy bangle with your white lab coat. Choose bracelets that fit the clothes you're wearing and the image you're trying to project. The best bracelets to combine with your western outfits are those that feature leather, Native style beadwork, engraved or etched silver, and traditional western gemstones (say 'hello' to turquoise).
